Erik S.
These guys are great. Reasonably priced, professional, reliable and attentive. The tech they just sent for a service, Brandon, was great. He took the time to teach me about the HVAC equipment I had installed some time ago, patiently answered my questions and even took the time to wipe down the front of my furnace just because.
Judith R.
We used Elite HVAC service to install a whole-house humidifier. The outstanding team of Chris, Joseph and Jorban were wonderful to work with. They are knowledgeable, responsive, polite, and we could not have asked for better service. It was evident that they love what they do! There was a minor glitch getting an electrical part, but Juan kept us updated, and it didn’t take long to resolve the issue. We highly recommend Elite and will definitely use them again!
Michael B.
Our tech Michael was great. Arrived earlier than the window we were told. He was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Probably the best tech for a service company that we have ever hired. If you use Elite, I recommend trying to request him for your service.
Jennie W.
Every interaction with Elite was excellent. Barb provided friendly and personalized help with scheduling, Steve brought his experience with old furnaces and took the time to show and explain why our very old unit was beyond saving, and Joseph and Yorvin spent several hours expertly and cleanly installing a new furnace. We called in the morning to request a diagnostic visit, and had our new furnace up and running by the end of the next day. From now on, Elite is our go-to company for HVAC service.

Our boiler failed a few years back on Christmas Eve. Elite came out and somehow obtained a Lockinvar boiler (98% efficiency) that we wanted. Since then, Elite has been replacing the filter (not a simple air filter, but a filter that drains 40 feet away). Whenever they come out, they always have arrived a bit early... a good thing. Also, and maybe I'm crazy, but I think there prices are fairly low. They always clean up afterwards too. I highly recommend Elite HVAC for any such needs you may have.

Common Issues We Troubleshoot With Thermostats

Thermostat problems range from simple fixes to complete replacement needs. Elite HVACs diagnoses issues accurately and provides appropriate solutions.

Temperature accuracy problems are among the most common complaints. Your thermostat displays one temperature while the room feels much different. Poor location causes many accuracy issues. Thermostats on exterior walls, near windows, or in direct sunlight don’t sense your home’s actual temperature. Aging sensors also drift out of calibration over time.

System not responding to thermostat settings indicates communication or wiring problems. Your HVAC should start when the temperature drops below the setpoint, but nothing happens. Loose wiring connections, failed components, or compatibility issues between the thermostat and equipment all cause response failures.

Incorrect cycling, where your system runs constantly or short cycles frequently, often traces to thermostat problems. Anticipator settings on older thermostats may need adjustment. Digital thermostat programming might have incorrect temperature differentials. Sometimes the thermostat itself malfunctions, sending improper signals tothe  equipment.

Blank displays or unresponsive screens make thermostats unusable. Dead batteries are the simplest cause with battery-powered models. Wired thermostats with display problems may have power supply issues or internal failures requiring replacement.

Common thermostat problems we fix:

  • Inaccurate temperature readings
  • HVAC not responding to temperature changes
  • System running constantly or short cycling
  • Display problems or blank screens
  • Lost programming or settings
  • Inconsistent heating or cooling performance

Skokie’s temperature extremes stress thermostats during peak heating and cooling seasons. Older mechanical thermostats drift out of calibration more quickly in our climate. Location problems are common in our area’s diverse housing stock, where thermostats may have been installed without considering optimal placement.

Types of Thermostats We Install

Elite HVACs installs all thermostat types from basic models to advanced smart systems. Understanding your options helps you select the right thermostat for your needs and budget.

Non-programmable thermostats offer simple manual temperature control. You adjust the temperature whenever you want changes. These basic models work fine if you’re home consistently and don’t mind manual adjustments, but they miss opportunities for automated energy savings.

Programmable thermostats adjust temperature automatically based on schedules you set. Program different temperatures for morning, day, evening, and night with separate weekday and weekend schedules. This automation reduces energy waste when you’re sleeping or away while ensuring comfort when you’re home and active.

Smart thermostats add remote control, learning capabilities, and integration with home automation systems. Control temperature from your smartphone anywhere you have internet access. Many smart thermostats learn your preferences and adjust automatically. Energy usage reports help you understand consumption patterns and identify savings opportunities.

Wi-Fi thermostats provide remote access through apps, but may not have the learning features of premium smart models. These offer good value for people wanting remote control without paying for advanced automation features they won’t use.

Thermostat options we install:

  • Basic non-programmable thermostats
  • Programmable models with daily scheduling
  • Wi-Fi thermostats with remote access
  • Smart thermostats with learning capabilities
  • Multi-zone control systems
  • Commercial building automation thermostats

Compatibility with your HVAC system determines which thermostats work for your home. We verify compatibility before recommending specific models, ensuring proper function with your heating and cooling equipment.

Benefits of Upgrading to a Smart Thermostat

Smart thermostats deliver advantages beyond basic temperature control. Understanding these benefits helps you decide if upgrading makes sense for your situation.

Energy savings are the primary benefit most homeowners seek. Smart thermostats optimize heating and cooling schedules automatically, reducing runtime when you’re away or sleeping. Studies show smart thermostats reduce HVAC energy consumption by 10% to 23% compared to manual thermostats. For Skokie homeowners with high heating and cooling costs, these savings add up to $100 to $300 annually.

A remote control provides convenience and additional savings. Forgot to adjust the thermostat before leaving for vacation? Change it on your phone. Coming home early? Warm up or cool down your house before arrival. This flexibility prevents wasted energy while maintaining comfort when needed.

Learning capabilities make smart thermostats increasingly efficient over time. The thermostat observes your manual adjustments and begins anticipating your preferences. After a few weeks, it operates automatically based on learned patterns without requiring scheduled programming.

Usage insights help you understand energy consumption. Detailed reports show when your system runs most, how the weather affects usage, and opportunities for additional savings. This data makes it easier to optimize settings and identify problems affecting efficiency.

Smart thermostat advantages include:

  • Significant energy cost reduction
  • Convenient remote access and control
  • Automatic schedule learning
  • Integration with smart home systems
  • Detailed energy usage reports
  • Alerts for maintenance needs and problems

Skokie’s variable weather makes smart thermostat features particularly valuable. Our temperature swings between seasons, and even day-to-day mean static schedules don’t work optimally. Smart thermostats adapt automatically to changing conditions, maintaining comfort while minimizing energy waste.

Our Thermostat Repair & Installation Services

Elite HVACs provides complete thermostat services from troubleshooting existing problems to installing and configuring new systems. Our systematic approach ensures proper function and optimal performance.

Troubleshooting begins with understanding your symptoms and examining thermostat operation. We test temperature accuracy, verify proper system response, check wiring connections, and evaluate thermostat location. Often, simple fixes like calibration adjustment, battery replacement, or relocating the thermostat solve problems without replacement.

When replacement is necessary, we help you select an appropriate thermostat based on your needs, HVAC system compatibility, and budget. We explain differences between models clearly without pushing premium options you don’t need or want.

Installation includes removing your old thermostat, running any additional wiring needed for smart thermostats, mounting the new unit properly, and making all electrical connections correctly. We verify compatibility with your HVAC equipment and test all functions before considering installation complete.

Configuration and programming ensure your new thermostat operates optimally from day one. We set up schedules based on your routines, configure Wi-Fi connections for smart models, and demonstrate all features so you can use your new thermostat effectively.

Our thermostat services include:

  • Complete troubleshooting and diagnosis
  • Repair when problems are fixable
  • Expert selection guidance for replacements
  • Professional installation with proper wiring
  • Smart thermostat Wi-Fi setup and configuration
  • Schedule programming based on your routine
  • Feature demonstration and operation training

We take time to ensure you understand your new thermostat’s capabilities. Many homeowners never use advanced features simply because they don’t know how. Our thorough demonstration helps you get full value from your investment.
