These guys are great. Reasonably priced, professional, reliable and attentive. The tech they just sent for a service, Brandon, was great. He took the time to teach me about the HVAC equipment I had installed some time ago, patiently answered my questions and even took the time to wipe down the front of my furnace just because.
Judith R.
We used Elite HVAC service to install a whole-house humidifier. The outstanding team of Chris, Joseph and Jorban were wonderful to work with. They are knowledgeable, responsive, polite, and we could not have asked for better service. It was evident that they love what they do! There was a minor glitch getting an electrical part, but Juan kept us updated, and it didn’t take long to resolve the issue. We highly recommend Elite and will definitely use them again!
Michael B.
Our tech Michael was great. Arrived earlier than the window we were told. He was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Probably the best tech for a service company that we have ever hired. If you use Elite, I recommend trying to request him for your service.

Every interaction with Elite was excellent. Barb provided friendly and personalized help with scheduling, Steve brought his experience with old furnaces and took the time to show and explain why our very old unit was beyond saving, and Joseph and Yorvin spent several hours expertly and cleanly installing a new furnace. We called in the morning to request a diagnostic visit, and had our new furnace up and running by the end of the next day. From now on, Elite is our go-to company for HVAC service.

Our boiler failed a few years back on Christmas Eve. Elite came out and somehow obtained a Lockinvar boiler (98% efficiency) that we wanted. Since then, Elite has been replacing the filter (not a simple air filter, but a filter that drains 40 feet away). Whenever they come out, they always have arrived a bit early... a good thing. Also, and maybe I'm crazy, but I think there prices are fairly low. They always clean up afterwards too. I highly recommend Elite HVAC for any such needs you may have.

Signs Your Current AC System Should Be Replaced

Knowing when to replace rather than repair your air conditioner helps you make smart financial decisions and avoid repeated breakdowns. Several factors indicate replacement makes more sense than continued repairs.

Age is the primary consideration for AC replacement. Most air conditioners last 12 to 15 years with proper maintenance. Once your system reaches this age range, efficiency declines and repair frequency increases. Replacing aging equipment before major failures occur prevents emergency situations during the hottest weather.

Frequent repairs signal a system reaching the end of its useful life. If you’ve needed multiple service calls over the past two years, your AC is telling you it’s wearing out. The cost of repeated repairs often exceeds what annual maintenance on a new system would cost, while providing far less reliability.

Rising energy bills without increased usage indicate declining efficiency. Older systems lose efficiency as components wear, coils accumulate dirt, and refrigerant levels drift. A new high-efficiency system can reduce cooling costs by 30% to 50% compared to equipment over 10 years old.

Inadequate cooling despite repairs suggests your system can’t meet your home’s demands. Room additions, insulation improvements, or changes in usage patterns may have increased cooling needs beyond your AC’s capacity. Replacement with properly sized equipment solves performance problems that repairs can’t address.

Replacement indicators include:

  • System age over 12 years with declining reliability
  • Major component failure like compressor, requiring expensive repair
  • R-22 refrigerant system facing costly recharging
  • Uneven cooling with persistent hot spots
  • Desire for improved efficiency and smart features

Skokie’s hot, humid summers mean air conditioners work hard every cooling season. Heavy use accelerates wear compared to moderate climates, where AC runs intermittently. Local systems often need replacement sooner than national averages suggest.

Common Reasons Home Air Conditioners Break Down

Understanding what causes AC failures helps you recognize when replacement makes more sense than continuing to repair aging equipment. Elite HVACs sees these problems frequently in Skokie homes.

Compressor failures are among the most expensive AC repairs. The compressor is essentially the heart of your cooling system, and compressor replacement costs $1,500 to $3,000 or more. On systems over 10 years old, compressor failure often warrants complete system replacement instead of this major repair.

Refrigerant leaks reduce cooling capacity and damage compressors if not addressed. Older systems using R-22 refrigerant face especially high recharge costs since this refrigerant is being phased out. Finding and repairing leaks then recharging with R-22, can cost $1,000 or more, making replacement more attractive for older equipment.

Coil deterioration from corrosion or freeze damage affects both evaporator and condenser coils. Corroded coils leak refrigerant, while damaged fins restrict airflow. Coil replacement is expensive and may not be worthwhile on aging systems near the end of their lifespan.

Electrical component failures, including capacitors, contactors, and control board,s occur more frequently as systems age. While individual repairs aren’t terribly expensive, multiple electrical problems within short timeframes suggest systemic aging requiring replacement consideration.

Skokie’s climate creates specific AC challenges. Our humid summers work cooling systems constantly. Urban pollution and pollen accumulate on outdoor units. Hard water affects condensate drainage. These local factors accelerate wear on AC components, often causing problems earlier than the equipment experiences in less demanding environments.

Our Professional AC System Replacement and Installation Process

Elite HVACs follows a comprehensive approach to AC installation, ensuring proper sizing, equipment selection, and professional installation. Correct installation is critical for performance, efficiency, and longevity.

Planning begins with a detailed assessment of your home’s cooling needs. We perform Manual J load calculations considering your home’s size, insulation, windows, orientation, and internal heat sources. Proper sizing prevents undersized systems that can’t cool adequately or oversized units that short-cycle and waste energy.

Equipment selection considers efficiency ratings, features, and budget. We explain the differences between SEER ratings and how efficiency improvements affect operating costs. Modern features like variable-speed compressors, two-stage operation, and smart thermostat compatibility get discussed so you understand options and their benefits.

Pre-installation preparation includes verifying electrical service capacity, assessing ductwork condition, and planning outdoor unit placement. Older homes may need electrical upgrades for new efficient equipment. Ductwork often needs sealing or modification. Proper outdoor unit location ensures adequate airflow and convenient service access.

Installation follows manufacturer specifications and industry best practices. We remove old equipment properly, handling refrigerant according to EPA regulations. New equipment gets positioned correctly, all connections are made professionally, and the system is evacuated and charged precisely. Rushed installations cause problems that proper procedures prevent.

Our installation process includes:

  • Professional load calculations for proper sizing
  • Equipment selection guidance and recommendations
  • Electrical service evaluation and upgrades if needed
  • Ductwork assessment and modifications
  • Complete old system removal and disposal
  • New equipment installation to specifications
  • Proper refrigerant evacuation and charging
  • Thermostat installation and programming
  • Complete system testing and startup
  • Operation demonstration and maintenance guidance

Testing and startup verify that every aspect operates correctly. We check refrigerant pressures and temperatures, measure airflow, test all modes, and ensure proper cycling. You won’t be left with an improperly functioning system discovered later.

Fast-Track AC Replacement for No-Cooling Emergencies

Elite HVACs understands that complete AC failures during Skokie’s summer heat create urgent situations. We provide expedited replacement service when repairs aren’t possible, and you need cooling restored quickly.

Emergency assessment determines if your AC can be repaired orif  replacement is necessary. Major failures like compressor burnout on older systems often make replacement the only practical option. We provide honest evaluation helping you make informed decisions during stressful situations.

Equipment availability is maintained through relationships with distributors. Even during peak summer when demand is highest, we secure equipment for emergency replacements. Quick-ship options and adequate inventory prevent extended waits for systems during heat waves.

Expedited installation prioritizes your comfort. Our crews work efficiently, completing installations as quickly as professional standards allow. Most residential AC replacements are completed within one to two days from equipment ordering to tested operation.

Emergency replacement features:

  • Rapid assessment and honest recommendations
  • Quick equipment sourcing even during peak season
  • Priority scheduling for urgent situations
  • Efficient installation without cutting corners
  • Same financing and warranty terms as planned replacements

We understand the health concerns and discomfort of no AC during Skokie summers. Our emergency replacement process balances speed with the quality installation necessary for reliable long-term performance.
