These guys are great. Reasonably priced, professional, reliable and attentive. The tech they just sent for a service, Brandon, was great. He took the time to teach me about the HVAC equipment I had installed some time ago, patiently answered my questions and even took the time to wipe down the front of my furnace just because.
Judith R.
We used Elite HVAC service to install a whole-house humidifier. The outstanding team of Chris, Joseph and Jorban were wonderful to work with. They are knowledgeable, responsive, polite, and we could not have asked for better service. It was evident that they love what they do! There was a minor glitch getting an electrical part, but Juan kept us updated, and it didn’t take long to resolve the issue. We highly recommend Elite and will definitely use them again!
Michael B.
Our tech Michael was great. Arrived earlier than the window we were told. He was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Probably the best tech for a service company that we have ever hired. If you use Elite, I recommend trying to request him for your service.

Every interaction with Elite was excellent. Barb provided friendly and personalized help with scheduling, Steve brought his experience with old furnaces and took the time to show and explain why our very old unit was beyond saving, and Joseph and Yorvin spent several hours expertly and cleanly installing a new furnace. We called in the morning to request a diagnostic visit, and had our new furnace up and running by the end of the next day. From now on, Elite is our go-to company for HVAC service.

Our boiler failed a few years back on Christmas Eve. Elite came out and somehow obtained a Lockinvar boiler (98% efficiency) that we wanted. Since then, Elite has been replacing the filter (not a simple air filter, but a filter that drains 40 feet away). Whenever they come out, they always have arrived a bit early... a good thing. Also, and maybe I'm crazy, but I think there prices are fairly low. They always clean up afterwards too. I highly recommend Elite HVAC for any such needs you may have.

Why Annual Furnace Maintenance Matters

Professional furnace maintenance delivers significant benefits that protect your investment and keep your family comfortable and safe throughout winter. The value of regular service far exceeds the cost.

Improved reliability means fewer breakdowns during Skokie’s harsh winters. Most furnace failures are preventable through maintenance that catches worn components before they fail. Annual service identifies problems while they’re minor and inexpensive to fix, preventing emergency situations when temperatures drop below freezing.

Enhanced efficiency reduces heating costs all winter long. Properly maintained furnaces use less fuel to produce the same heat. Cleaning, adjustments, and combustion tuning optimize performance. Maintained furnaces operate 10% to 20% more efficiently than neglected equipment, translating to substantial savings over a heating season.

Extended equipment lifespan defers expensive replacement. Furnaces receiving annual maintenance last 15 to 20 years or more, while neglected systems often fail after 10 to 12 years. For equipment costing $3,000 to $7,000 to replace, extending lifespan through maintenance represents significant value.

Safety improvements protect your family from carbon monoxide and other hazards. Furnace maintenance includes testing heat exchangers for cracks, checking for gas leaks, verifying proper venting, and ensuring complete combustion. These safety checks provide peace of mind that your heating operates without creating dangerous conditions.

Key maintenance benefits:

  • Dramatically reduced likelihood of mid-winter breakdowns
  • Lower heating bills from improved efficiency
  • Extended furnace lifespan by years
  • Maintained manufacturer warranty compliance
  • Early detection of safety issues
  • Better indoor air quality from clean components

Skokie’s cold winters mean furnaces run heavily from November through March. This extended operation stresses components more than moderate climates where heating systems cycle on and off intermittently. Regular maintenance is especially valuable here where heating demands are intense.

What's Included in Our Furnace Maintenance Service

Elite HVACs performs comprehensive furnace maintenance following systematic procedures that address all critical components. Our thorough approach ensures your heating system receives complete attention.

Combustion analysis and adjustment optimize efficiency and safety. We test flue gas composition, adjust air-to-fuel ratios for complete burning, and verify proper flame characteristics. Correct combustion maximizes efficiency while preventing dangerous carbon monoxide production.

Heat exchanger inspection checks for cracks or corrosion that could leak combustion gases into your home. The heat exchanger is your furnace’s most critical safety component. We examine it carefully using visual inspection and testing procedures that reveal problems before they become dangerous.

Burner cleaning removes soot and debris that reduce efficiency and affect combustion. Clean burners produce consistent flames and complete burning. We also inspect ignition systems ensuring reliable startup every time your thermostat calls for heat.

Blower assembly service keeps air moving efficiently through your system. We clean blower wheels that accumulate dust, check motor operation, lubricate bearings as needed, and verify proper belt tension. The blower circulates heated air throughout your home, and problems here affect comfort even when the furnace fires properly.

Our maintenance checklist includes:

  • Complete combustion testing and adjustment
  • Heat exchanger inspection for cracks
  • Burner and ignition system cleaning
  • Blower motor and wheel cleaning
  • Air filter inspection and replacement guidance
  • Gas line connection testing for leaks
  • Thermostat calibration check
  • Electrical connection inspection and tightening
  • Flue pipe and venting inspection
  • Safety control testing and verification
  • Carbon monoxide testing near furnace
  • Complete operational testing under load

Most residential furnace maintenance takes 60 to 90 minutes depending on system type and condition. We work efficiently while being thorough with every inspection point and service procedure.

Signs Your Furnace Needs a Tune-Up

Certain symptoms indicate your furnace needs professional attention even if you’ve missed annual maintenance. Recognizing these signs helps you schedule service before problems become emergencies.

Rising heating bills without increased usage suggest declining efficiency. Furnaces lose efficiency gradually as components wear and systems accumulate dirt. If your heating costs have crept up over recent years, maintenance can often restore better performance.

Uneven heating with some rooms comfortable while others stay cold indicates airflow or distribution problems. Dirty blowers, clogged filters, or ductwork issues all affect even heat delivery. Maintenance addresses these problems restoring consistent comfort.

Unusual noises from your furnace signal mechanical problems. Squealing suggests blower belt issues. Rumbling or booming sounds indicate delayed ignition from dirty burners. Rattling points to loose components. These noises warrant professional inspection before they become failures.

Frequent cycling where your furnace turns on and off more often than normal indicates control problems, airflow restrictions, or flame sensor issues. This short cycling wastes energy and stresses components.

Warning signs needing service:

  • Yellow or orange flame instead of steady blue
  • Excessive dust in your home despite regular cleaning
  • Dry air or increased static electricity
  • Rust or corrosion visible on furnace exterior
  • Age over 10 years without recent maintenance
  • Pilot light that frequently goes out

Skokie homeowners should never ignore yellow flames or unusual odors. These symptoms can indicate dangerous conditions requiring immediate professional attention rather than waiting for scheduled maintenance.

Dangers of Skipping Furnace Maintenance

Neglecting furnace maintenance creates risks that worsen over time. What starts as decreased efficiency eventually leads to safety hazards and expensive failures.

Carbon monoxide poisoning risk increases without annual inspection. Cracked heat exchangers leak deadly CO into living spaces. Blocked flue pipes prevent proper exhaust venting. Incomplete combustion from dirty burners produces excess CO. These problems develop gradually and aren’t detectable without professional testing equipment.

Unexpected breakdowns happen far more frequently without maintenance. Components wear out, dirt accumulates, and adjustments drift out of specification. These problems progress until sudden failures occur, often during the coldest weather when you need heating most and when HVAC companies are overwhelmed with emergency calls.

Higher heating bills result from declining efficiency. Dirty components, improper combustion, and worn parts make furnaces work harder using more fuel. This efficiency loss happens gradually so you may not notice dramatic year-to-year changes, but the cumulative cost over several years is substantial.

Shortened equipment lifespan means premature replacement. Furnaces typically last 15 to 20 years with proper care but only 10 to 12 years when neglected. Replacing a furnace years earlier than necessary wastes thousands of dollars.

Fire hazards develop from accumulated dust and debris. Furnaces generate significant heat, and combustible material accumulation near heat sources creates fire risks. Regular cleaning removes these hazards.

Warranty violations can void coverage when manufacturers require annual professional service. Many furnace warranties specify maintenance as a condition of coverage. Skipping service can leave you paying full cost for repairs that would otherwise be covered.
