These guys are great. Reasonably priced, professional, reliable and attentive. The tech they just sent for a service, Brandon, was great. He took the time to teach me about the HVAC equipment I had installed some time ago, patiently answered my questions and even took the time to wipe down the front of my furnace just because.
Judith R.
We used Elite HVAC service to install a whole-house humidifier. The outstanding team of Chris, Joseph and Jorban were wonderful to work with. They are knowledgeable, responsive, polite, and we could not have asked for better service. It was evident that they love what they do! There was a minor glitch getting an electrical part, but Juan kept us updated, and it didn’t take long to resolve the issue. We highly recommend Elite and will definitely use them again!
Michael B.
Our tech Michael was great. Arrived earlier than the window we were told. He was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Probably the best tech for a service company that we have ever hired. If you use Elite, I recommend trying to request him for your service.

Every interaction with Elite was excellent. Barb provided friendly and personalized help with scheduling, Steve brought his experience with old furnaces and took the time to show and explain why our very old unit was beyond saving, and Joseph and Yorvin spent several hours expertly and cleanly installing a new furnace. We called in the morning to request a diagnostic visit, and had our new furnace up and running by the end of the next day. From now on, Elite is our go-to company for HVAC service.

Our boiler failed a few years back on Christmas Eve. Elite came out and somehow obtained a Lockinvar boiler (98% efficiency) that we wanted. Since then, Elite has been replacing the filter (not a simple air filter, but a filter that drains 40 feet away). Whenever they come out, they always have arrived a bit early... a good thing. Also, and maybe I'm crazy, but I think there prices are fairly low. They always clean up afterwards too. I highly recommend Elite HVAC for any such needs you may have.

Signs You Need Furnace Repair

Recognizing furnace problems early helps you address issues before losing heat completely during freezing weather. Watch for these warning signs that indicate your system needs professional attention.

Weak or no heat is the most obvious problem. Your furnace runs but doesn’t warm your home adequately, or it won’t turn on at all. Some rooms stay cold while others get warm, or the entire house never reaches thermostat setpoint despite the system running constantly.

Strange noises indicate mechanical problems requiring attention. Banging or booming sounds suggest delayed ignition or ductwork expansion. Squealing points to belt or bearing issues. Rattling indicates loose components. Rumbling after burners shut off can signal problems with the heat exchanger.

Frequent cycling where your furnace turns on and off repeatedly without completing normal heating cycles suggests thermostat problems, airflow restrictions, or control failures. Short cycling wastes energy and stresses components.

Yellow or flickering burner flames instead of steady blue flames indicate incomplete combustion. This dangerous condition produces carbon monoxide and requires immediate professional service. Any burner flame color other than blue warrants urgent attention.

Additional warning signs include:

  • Rising energy bills without increased usage
  • Persistent dust or poor air quality
  • Furnace constantly running without reaching temperature
  • Unusual odors like burning or gas smells
  • Pilot light that won’t stay lit

Skokie’s cold winters make furnace reliability critical. Don’t ignore warning signs during fall or early winter. Small problems that seem manageable in October become emergencies when January temperatures drop below zero.

Common Furnace Problems We Fix

Elite HVACs repairs all types of furnace failures. Our experience with Skokie’s climate and local homes means we understand problems affecting systems in our area.

Ignition and pilot light problems prevent furnaces from producing heat. Failed ignitors, dirty flame sensors, or thermocouple issues stop gas furnaces from lighting. These components wear out over time or fail from dirt accumulation. Electric ignition systems in modern furnaces have different failure modes but create the same no-heat result.

Blower motor failures leave you without heat distribution even when burners fire properly. Motors burn out from age, bearing wear, or electrical problems. Capacitors supporting motor operation also fail frequently, preventing blowers from starting or running correctly.

Thermostat malfunctions create heating problems that mimic furnace issues. Incorrect calibration, dead batteries, loose wiring, or failed components prevent thermostats from controlling furnaces properly. We always test thermostat operation during diagnosis.

Cracked heat exchangers are serious safety concerns. Cracks allow combustion gases including carbon monoxide to enter air circulation. Heat exchangers crack from age, corrosion, or repeated overheating from restricted airflow. This problem usually requires furnace replacement rather than repair.

Airflow restrictions from dirty filters, blocked vents, or failed blowers cause numerous problems. Restricted airflow makes furnaces overheat triggering safety shutdowns. Reduced air delivery means inadequate heating even when the furnace operates.

Limit switch problems cause intermittent operation where furnaces cycle on and off unexpectedly. These safety devices shut furnaces down if temperatures exceed safe limits. Failed switches or conditions causing actual overheating both trigger these shutdowns.

Gas valve failures prevent proper fuel delivery. Valves that won’t open fully reduce heating capacity. Valves that stick open create dangerous situations. These problems require professional diagnosis and proper replacement.

Our Furnace Repair Process

Elite HVACs follows systematic diagnostic procedures ensuring accurate problem identification and effective repairs. Proper diagnosis is essential for fixing problems right the first time.

We begin by gathering information about your symptoms and system behavior. When did problems start? Does the furnace try to start or show no activity? Are there error codes displayed? Understanding your situation guides diagnostic testing.

Visual inspection reveals obvious problems like disconnected wires, damaged components, or blocked venting. We examine your furnace thoroughly looking for signs of wear, damage, or improper past repairs that might cause current issues.

Testing continues with specialized equipment and procedures. We verify thermostat operation, check electrical components, measure gas pressure, test safety controls, and evaluate airflow. For systems that won’t start, we methodically test the ignition sequence identifying where the process fails.

Once we identify the problem, we explain what’s wrong in plain language. You’ll understand what failed, why it happened, and what repair involves. We provide upfront pricing before beginning work so you can make informed decisions.

Our service trucks stock common furnace parts including ignitors, flame sensors, capacitors, motors, and controls. This preparation allows completing most repairs during the initial visit without return trips or parts delays.

After repairs, we test operation thoroughly. The furnace must start reliably, heat properly, cycle correctly, and shut down safely. We verify proper operation before considering work complete.

Emergency Furnace Repair

Elite HVACs provides 24-hour emergency furnace repair because heating failures during Skokie winters can’t wait for regular business hours.

A home without heat when temperatures drop below freezing creates dangerous situations for children, elderly residents, and anyone with health conditions. Freezing temperatures also threaten your plumbing as pipes can freeze and burst without adequate heat.

Our emergency service includes rapid response with experienced technicians dispatched quickly. We arrive with fully stocked trucks ready to diagnose and repair common problems immediately. Most emergency calls are resolved the same day, restoring heat within hours rather than leaving you cold overnight or longer.

We understand the stress of heating emergencies and work efficiently while remaining thorough. Emergency repairs receive the same careful attention as scheduled service because proper repairs prevent callbacks and additional problems.

Emergency service features:

  • 24/7 phone support and rapid dispatch
  • Same-day response for urgent heating failures
  • Experienced technicians available nights and weekends
  • Fully equipped vehicles for immediate repairs
  • Upfront emergency pricing before work begins

Priority goes to complete heating failures during extreme cold. We respond as quickly as possible when your family’s comfort and safety are at risk.

It depends on your furnace’s age, the repair cost, and overall condition. We provide honest assessments helping you understand when repair makes sense versus when replacement is the wiser investment.

Common causes include thermostat problems, tripped breakers, failed ignitors, bad flame sensors, or control failures. Our diagnostic process identifies the specific issue quickly.

Some noises indicate problems requiring immediate attention while others are less urgent. Any gas smell, burning odor, or dramatic change in operation warrants shutting the furnace down and calling for service.
