These guys are great. Reasonably priced, professional, reliable and attentive. The tech they just sent for a service, Brandon, was great. He took the time to teach me about the HVAC equipment I had installed some time ago, patiently answered my questions and even took the time to wipe down the front of my furnace just because.
Judith R.
We used Elite HVAC service to install a whole-house humidifier. The outstanding team of Chris, Joseph and Jorban were wonderful to work with. They are knowledgeable, responsive, polite, and we could not have asked for better service. It was evident that they love what they do! There was a minor glitch getting an electrical part, but Juan kept us updated, and it didn’t take long to resolve the issue. We highly recommend Elite and will definitely use them again!
Michael B.
Our tech Michael was great. Arrived earlier than the window we were told. He was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Probably the best tech for a service company that we have ever hired. If you use Elite, I recommend trying to request him for your service.

Every interaction with Elite was excellent. Barb provided friendly and personalized help with scheduling, Steve brought his experience with old furnaces and took the time to show and explain why our very old unit was beyond saving, and Joseph and Yorvin spent several hours expertly and cleanly installing a new furnace. We called in the morning to request a diagnostic visit, and had our new furnace up and running by the end of the next day. From now on, Elite is our go-to company for HVAC service.

Our boiler failed a few years back on Christmas Eve. Elite came out and somehow obtained a Lockinvar boiler (98% efficiency) that we wanted. Since then, Elite has been replacing the filter (not a simple air filter, but a filter that drains 40 feet away). Whenever they come out, they always have arrived a bit early... a good thing. Also, and maybe I'm crazy, but I think there prices are fairly low. They always clean up afterwards too. I highly recommend Elite HVAC for any such needs you may have.

Indicators Your Water Heater Is Failing

Water heater problems rarely appear without warning. Recognizing early signs helps you address issues before you lose hot water completely.

Temperature inconsistency is often the first sign of trouble. Your water might start lukewarm and never get truly hot, or it runs hot for a few minutes, then turns cold. Strange noises from the tank, like rumbling, popping, or banging, indicate sediment buildup on the heating elements.

Discolored water coming from hot taps suggests internal corrosion. Rusty or brown water means the tank lining is deteriorating. You might also notice a metallic taste or smell in your hot water before discoloration becomes visible.

Watch for these warning signs:

  • Reduced hot water supply that runs out faster than normal
  • Water is pooling around the base of your heater
  • Spike in energy bills without increased usage
  • Age of unit approaching 10-15 years

Skokie’s hard water accelerates sediment buildup and corrosion inside water heaters. Our mineral-rich water supply is tough on heating elements and tank linings, often causing problems earlier than in areas with softer water.

No-Hot-Water, Leaks and Other Problems We Fix

Elite HVACs repairs all common water heater failures. Whether you have no hot water at all or are dealing with performance issues, our technicians have the expertise to restore your system.

Complete hot water loss has several possible causes. Gas water heaters may have pilot light problems, faulty thermocouples, or gas valve failures. Electric models often experience heating element burnout or tripped breakers. Thermostat malfunctions affect both types and prevent proper temperature regulation.

Leaking water heaters require immediate attention. Small leaks from valve connections or pipes can often be repaired, but tank leaks usually mean replacement is necessary. Our technicians assess leak sources and provide honest recommendations about repair versus replacement.

Sediment accumulation is extremely common in Skokie due to our water hardness. This buildup reduces efficiency, causes noise, and shortens tank life. Flushing removes sediment and restores performance in many cases.

Pressure relief valve problems create safety hazards. These valves release excess pressure to prevent tank explosions, so malfunctions need immediate repair. We also fix faulty dip tubes, corroded anodes, and damaged heating elements that affect water heater performance.

Our Step-by-Step Water Heater Troubleshooting Process

Proper diagnosis is essential for effective water heater repair. Elite HVACs follows a systematic approach to identify problems and determine the best solution.

We begin by gathering information about your symptoms and when they started. Understanding the problem history helps narrow down possible causes. Then we inspect the entire unit, including connections, valves, venting, and electrical components.

For gas water heaters, we check the pilot light, thermocouple, gas supply, and burner operation. Electric models require testing heating elements, thermostats, and electrical connections. We measure water temperature, check pressure relief valve function, and look for signs of corrosion or leaks.

Testing continues until we identify the root cause. Once we pinpoint the problem, we explain what’s wrong and what repair options you have. You’ll receive upfront pricing before any work begins, so you can make an informed decision about how to proceed.

Our service trucks stock common water heater parts for both tank and tankless systems. This preparation allows us to complete most repairs during the initial visit without scheduling follow-up appointments.

The Benefits of Repairing Your Water Heater Early

Addressing water heater problems promptly saves money and prevents bigger failures. Small issues become major breakdowns when ignored, often at the worst possible time.

Early repairs extend your water heater’s lifespan significantly. A failing heating element caught early costs far less than replacing a burned-out unit. Sediment removal before it causes tank damage adds years to your equipment.

Energy efficiency improves after repairs. A struggling water heater uses more gas or electricity to produce the same amount of hot water. Fixing thermostat problems, replacing worn elements, and removing sediment all reduce energy consumption and lower your utility bills.

Water damage prevention is another critical benefit. Small leaks worsen over time, potentially flooding basements or damaging floors and walls. Skokie’s cold winters can cause frozen pipes if a water heater fails during extreme weather, compounding damage and repair costs.

Early repair benefits include:

  • Lower total repair costs compared to emergency service
  • Avoided water damage to your property
  • Maintained home comfort and daily routines
  • An extended equipment life before replacement is needed
