Residential HVAC FAQs

When should I change my air filter?

Your air filter will need to be changed regularly. Timeframes may vary on this due to certain variables. What kind of air filter you have, whether or not you smoke, if you have pets, and the time of year is all going to play a role in how frequently you change need to replace your filter.

You’re going to want to have your HVAC system serviced every year. This maintenance is essential because it will end up keeping your energy costs low. On top of saving you money, it prevents you from having to buy a new system sooner than is necessary.

Carbon monoxide kills 200 people a year and is something that you should be concerned about, at least enough to be prepared. There are ways to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, and one of those is to install carbon monoxide detectors in your home. These detectors can alert you when the odorless gas is in the air allowing you to get to safety.

Not necessarily. If you install an AC unit or furnace that is too big for your home, it could end up costing you more money in the long run because you will be using more energy. With more power, these systems also may not stay on long enough for you to even get the cooling or warming effects (depending on the system).

In an AC unit, this creates condensation which can lead to mold. In a furnace, this can produce an unstable temperature in the home.

You’re looking at a life expectancy between 10 and 20 years. You will be able to notice when your system is about to reach its limit. It will need repair more frequently and may be noisier than usual. It can also lose its energy efficiency.

You always have the option of maintaining it and repairing it, but the HVAC technology is ever-changing, and many new features can save on energy and cost. A lot of progress can be made within that amount of time, so you will want to weigh your options.

Mold spores travel through the air but need moisture to grow. Anywhere you have moisture or condensation in your home that doesn’t go dry creates a breeding ground for mold. There are ways you can prevent mold from growing in your home.

First, install UV lights for your cooling coils. This is where condensation builds up, and the UV lights will help kill any bacteria or spores that are trying to grow. Second, you will want to take some preventative measures around the house to make sure areas mold can grow dry. Third, consider a high filtration system that can keep your HVAC system from getting any build-up.

We contacted Elite HVACS on one of the hottest days of summer(we had no central air for 2weeks) and they sent some1 out same day to assess situation & decided to go with them for the work. I am happy to say that not only did we get the central air going but also replaced the heating unit which was old. Everyone we talked to from beginning to end were very professional, courteous and the work was very efficiently done. I would highly recommend this company.
